Vijit Nandrajog designs Kharghar Valley golf course near Mumbai

Golf Design India’s principal architect Vijit Nandrajog has been selected to design the new Kharghar Valley golf course near Mumbai, India.

The project is the region’s first 18-hole championship-level golf course that will be available for public play. Kharghar Valley will also include a driving range and golf academy.

“This is truly a spectacular site for golf,” said Nandrajog. “As the name suggests, the site is located in a valley along the foothills of Kharghar Hills and offers splendid views all around. The topography of the site is dramatic and there are some unique landforms that I intend to utilise in their natural state in the design of the course.

“The course I envision will have a lot of ground movement and undulations all the way from tee to green. All non-playing areas will be treated in a unique and sustainable way, creating a series of water channels and ponds on the site, which will also help to tackle the issue of the incredible amount of water that runs into it from the surrounding hills during the monsoons.”

Nandrajog’s routing has been finalised and detailed design is progressing with construction expected to start by September. Work will be completed in two phases of nine holes.

“The course will undoubtedly become one of the most popular and spectacular golf courses in the country and I am excited to get this built soon,” said Nandrajog.
