Tripp Davis completes bunker renovation work at Wichita CC
Tripp Davis has completed a bunker renovation and restoration project at the Wichita Country Club in Wichita, Kansas.
The recent work follows on from a project at the club in 2014 which saw the course’s tees planted with Latitude 36 Bermuda grass.
The club was founded in 1900, but moved to its present site in 1950, where Bill Diddel designed the course.
“Wichita Country Club has a great set of original Diddel greens and a subtly brilliant routing,” said Davis. “In redoing the tees and the bunkers, our objective was to work with the greens and routing to enhance the strategic quality of the course. I could not be more pleased with the way the visual style of the bunkers turned out – very classic.”
Davis has worked to renovate and replace the drainage on the bunkering, while Better Billy Bunker liners have also been installed. Furthermore, a new blended bunker sand is now in place.
The project aimed to restore the classic look of the bunkers, in accordance with Diddel’s original design, and aimed to return the original strategic intent of the bunkering for the modern game.
The club’s head golf professional, Phillip Prude, commented: “Wichita Country Club is extremely pleased with the work that Tripp Davis, his shaper Jason Gold, and builder Landscapes Unlimited did with the bunker renovation and restoration. I would have never thought a bunker project could have such a dramatic impact on the way a golf course looks and plays, but this one has.”
