TPC Harding Park ready to reopen Fleming 9 following re-grassing project

TPC Harding Park in San Francisco, California, will reopen its Fleming 9 golf course on 16 November following a re-grassing project.

Shortly after the city-owned public facility hosted the 2020 PGA Championship, on its main Harding Park course in early August, it began a 60-day project to reseed the Fleming 9 with ryegrass.

Named after former San Francisco city golf caretaker Jack Fleming, the Fleming 9 was added to the interior of the property in 1961. It is a par 30, with six par-three holes and three par fours.

“Now more than ever, golfers are eager to get out and play,” said San Francisco Recreation and Park Department general manager Phil Ginsburg. “The Fleming 9 at TPC Harding Park has earned a reputation among San Franciscans as an affordable and accessible favourite. Its reopening means more opportunity for golfers to do what they love on a relaxed and beautiful course.”

TPC Harding Park has also started a renovation of its practice facilities, which is expected to be complete in January 2021.

There will be a new driving range, which will feature artificial turf hitting bays, an expansive fairway, and Toptracer Range technology. Other parts of the renovation include the grass putting green and short game area.

“We’re excited to introduce these enhancements to TPC Harding Park, which support our top priority of providing an enjoyable experience for the public golfer,” said general manager Tom Smith. “It’s not too often a public course has the opportunity to enhance infrastructure, so when we planned the practice area renovation, we worked through every last detail – ensuring it would be state-of-the-art, yet still inviting and fun. We’re incredibly proud of the final design and can’t wait to share it with the community.”
