The Summit Club at Armonk opens renovated front nine

The Summit Club at Armonk in New York has opened the front nine holes of its golf course following a renovation by Rees Jones.

The golf course project, which began in November 2020, is part of a transformation of the former Brynwood Golf & Country Club.

Work on the front nine has included new bunkers and tees, reshaping fairways and extending the ninth hole from a par four to a par five.

On the back nine, the tenth hole was taken out of play to make way for a residential development, and the rest of the holes are being reconfigured. The old eleventh is now the tenth and has been reshaped completely.

The par-four fifteenth is now a 530-yard par five that gives big hitters the chance to reach a new green – built a hundred yards further away across a creek – in two, if they’re willing to take on the creek and false front.

The old par-five seventeenth has been replaced by two holes. One hole is a par four playing to a new green, while the previous seventeenth green is now being used for a 180-yard par three that has its tee near the ninth fairway.

“The extensive golf course improvements will make The Summit Club at Armonk a place that all levels of golfers can enjoy, in a natural landscape that offers dramatic elevation changes and stunning panoramic views of the New York countryside,” said Jones.

As part of the transformation, the club also plans to open some new amenities over the next few years, including a pool, fitness centre, clubhouse and tennis courts. Seventy-three luxury homes also are planned.

All 18 holes will be ready for member play in mid-June, as will the upgraded practice facilities.
