The Reserve Club at Woodside opens new layout
The Reserve Club at Woodside in Aiken, South Carolina, has opened its new Hollow Creek golf course, designed by Clyde Johnston.
The par 71, 6,943-yard layout joins Woodside’s other 18-hole course, the Reserve, designed by Nicklaus Design. The first 10 holes of the Hollow Creek layout were opened in 2007, with two additional holes added in 2017. The final six holes have been completed this year.

“The golf course is sited on rolling-to-slightly hilly land, which gave me the opportunity to create some nice views with downhill shots to some fairways and greens,” said Johnston. “My favourite of the new holes is number nine, a par five of 511 yards from the back tees. The hole plays slightly uphill to the first landing area, which is protected by bunkers on the left and right side in a staggered manner. The hole then plays slightly downhill for a short distance then drops dramatically downhill over a slight valley and back up to the green.
“The sixth is another favourite. It is a downhill par three that plays to a reverse Redan green. The right side of the green drops off into a bunker. The left side of the green is slightly higher than the green itself and is the safer side of the hole.”
The Hollow Creek golf course gets its name from the 110-acre nature preserve that is adjacent to it, which features rolling hills, mature hardwoods and miles of trails.

The addition of the Hollow Creek golf course is an example of how we deliver on that promise.”
