Summer 2020 issue of ASGCA’s By Design magazine is out now

The Summer 2020 issue of the American Society of Golf Course Architects’ By Design magazine is now available in digital format.

The issue’s cover story – Golf’s new dawn – sees golf industry leaders and ASGCA members providing insights into how golf facilities can adapt to thrive in the wake of coronavirus, with reference to clubs that have pressed ahead with course changes during the crisis.

The issue also includes a reflection on the life and career of long-time ASGCA executive secretary Paul Fullmer, who passed away in January 2020. Fullmer had a significant impact on raising the profile of the profession of golf course architecture in the United States and beyond.

Elsewhere, there’s an interview with Renee Powell, the 2020 ASGCA Donald Ross Award winner. Her father, William Powell, was the first African American to design and build his own layout in the United States – Clearview Golf Course in Ohio. Renee pursued a career as an LPGA professional then returned to operate her family’s club, and also oversees the Clearview Legacy Foundation, which provides education, helps to preserve the legacy of Clearview and conducts turfgrass research.

Also in this issue of By Design is a showcase of some of the designs created for ‘The Great Junior Golf Design Challenge 2020’, a round-up of ASGCA news and a Q&A with Chad Goetz, design associate at Nicklaus Design.

By Design is free of charge – visit the By Design page of the ASGCA website to subscribe and review the back catalogue of digital editions.
