Sherman returns to renovate Mark Bostick course at University of Florida

Architect Scot Sherman has overseen a renovation project at the Mark Bostick Golf Course on the University of Florida’s Gainesville campus.

The work included the stripping, contouring, and re-grassing all greens with Champion Ultradwarf bermudagrass, as well as the reconstruction of bunkers, including the redesign of many throughout the course.

Renovations have also been made to the team practice area, while upgrades have been carried out on the course’s irrigation.

Other improvements include to the course’s landscaping, with some tree removal carried out to alleviate playability and shade issues.

The Mark Bostick course was originally design by Donald Ross in 1921. Sherman worked alongside Bobby Weed to redesign and reroute the course for the university back in 2001.

“I am amazed how quickly 13 years has flown by,” said Sherman. “During those years, the University’s course has gotten a lot of use and it was time to make some upgrades – that’s what happens as golf courses age. The quality of the 2001 work allowed this 2014 renovation to be completed quickly, efficiently and economically.”

“This summer’s project focused on infusing the layout with updated technology to carry the course through the next couple of decades,” added Sherman. “The newest turfgrass, bunker sand and irrigation technology have been brought to the site and will help challenge future generations of Gator golfers. The condition of the golf course is certainly better than ever.”
