Sale of Royal Norwich Golf Club now complete
Royal Norwich Golf Club in the UK has sold its land to a building developer for a reported £17 million.
Members of the club voted in favour of selling the club’s course for redevelopment back in November 2014. Persimmon, which has bought the land, will turn the site into housing, while the club itself will relocate to nearby Weston Park.
“This has been a long process for members, the various committees and individuals who have been involved in the project, but we can finally start the next exciting phase in the development of Royal Norwich,” said David Coventry, the club’s chairman.
Royal Norwich Golf Club will remain open for the next two years as work gets underway on a new 27-hole complex being developed on the site of the current Weston Park course.
European Golf Design’s Ross McMurray is heading up the development, which includes an 18-hole and academy course, as well as a new club house.
“Our aim is not only to create the premier members’ golf club in the region but to provide courses that will appeal to golfers of all ages as part of Royal Norwich Golf Club’s objective to create a warm and friendly environment for their members, families and guests,” McMurray told GCA last July. “With the drive and ambition of Royal Norwich I am confident that this exciting new development will be a huge success and will perhaps provide a template for the rejuvenation of other golf clubs around the country.”
