Renovations to Castlerock’s Mussenden course near completion
A project to renovate the Mussenden course at Castlerock Golf Club in County Derry, Northern Ireland, is nearing completion.
Under the guidance of golf course architect Dr Martin Hawtree, the project has seen worked carried out on the course’s bunkers, greens and fairways.
Bert McKay, general manager at Castlerock GC, told GCA that the main aims of the work have been “to make the course play better, with bunkers more in keeping with the course’s links feel, and consistent surfaces throughout.”
“We wanted a bunker program to work to and we knew that there was a number of issues with some of the greens so they were also reconstructed,” said McKay. “We have since reconstructed two fairways and put in a lot more drainage round the course so a big project!”
Hawtree has worked alongside Sol Golf, who have led the construction element of the project.
Having commenced in October 2017, the project is set to reach completion before end of February.
