Renovations coming to Reynolds Lake Oconee’s Great Waters course next year

Nicklaus Design has been hired to oversee a renovation project at the Great Waters course at the Reynolds Lake Oconee community in Georgia.

Commencing in June 2018, the project will be led by Chad Goetz, a design associate at Nicklaus Design.

The course will be completely regrassed, while Goetz will also look at elements of the course’s infrastructure, such as drainage and tree locations.

The community’s practice facility will also be worked as part of the work.

Reynolds Lake Oconee is located halfway between the cities of Atlanta and Augusta.

The course features a parkland style front nine, with water in play on six holes. The back nine holes lie next to Lake Oconee, with the fourteenth hole featuring green that sits right on the shoreline.

The course – which was originally designed by Nicklaus and opened 27 years ago – is set to reopen in autumn 2019.

“Our desire is to keep the course true to Mr. Nicklaus’s original vision while modernising the course where appropriate – and prudent – and adding length where available,” said Rabun Neal, president of Reynolds Lake Oconee.

“The first time I went to Reynolds, I knew we had the potential to have a great golf course,” said Jack Nicklaus. “I think we found it then, and now more than a quarter of a century later, a wonderful golf experience remains but is in need of a little updating. It’s one of the really great pieces of property with which I have ever had the experience to work.”
