Renovations coming to Championship course at Tanglewood Park
A series of renovations are coming to the Championship course at Tanglewood Park in Clemmons, North Carolina.
Wadsworth Golf Construction has been hired to carry out the work, based on a masterplan drawn up by Robert Trent Jones II Golf Architects in collaboration with Richard Mandell.
Bunkers will be renovated as part of the upcoming project, and the total square footage of the bunkering is set to be reduced. Some will be eliminated completely and others reduced in size.
All remaining bunkers will be completely renovated with new drainage and sand, and the Better Billy Bunker system will be introduced.
The course’s greens will be converted from bentgrass to Champion bermudagrass as part of the project.
Trees will be strategically removed from the course, and updates will be made to the irrigation system.
Work is set to get underway in May 2018, with the course likely to reopen in November.
Tanglewood Park is home to two 18-hole courses originally designed by Robert Trent Jones, Sr. – the Championship course and Reynolds course.
The 1974 PGA Championship, won by Lee Trevino, was played on the club’s Championship course.
