Prince’s opens revamped short game area
Prince’s Golf Club in Kent, England, has opened its revamped short game area.
The club, which neighbours Royal St George’s and is a host of Local Final Qualifying for the Open Championship, has invested £50,000 to create a larger putting green and two additional greens and pot bunkers for pitching, chipping and bunker practice.
The work on the short game area began in August 2017 and is now open to members and visitors, having been tested by Open Championship hopefuls during Local Final Qualifying in July 2018.
“We used half of the old chipping green for the new par-three fifth hole on the Himalayas nine, which opened up space for us to create two new practice pot bunkers and additional run-off areas,” said Rob McGuirk, general manager of Prince’s Golf Club. “Our plan is to continue adding to the area with another green which allows for longer pitch shots.”
“This is a very exciting development which adds to our existing excellent practice facilities and will improve the experience for our members and visitors.”
The 27-hole club recently reopened its Himalayas nine following work by golf course architect Martin Ebert. The next phase of the club’s redevelopment project will involve work on its Shore and Dunes nines.
