Patriot course at The Wigwam reopens following renovation work
The Patriot Golf Course at The Wigwam Resort in Phoenix, Arizona, has reopened following a renovation of the bunkering and irrigation system.
Originally designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr., the recent work has been led by Key Golf – a renovation and maintenance firm based in Nevada and specialising in ‘southwestern style courses’. Key Golf has collaborated with The Wigwam’s ownership group, JDM Partners, to carry out the work.
31 bunkers have been removed from The Patriot course, with a number of the 38 remaining bunkers being reshaped and modernised.
The course’s bunkering now has a splash-up, flat-top design, and features new white sand.
Further work included the replacement of 880 sprinkler heads throughout the course, as part of the improvements to the irrigation system.
The work on the Patriot course follows on from a similar project led by Tom Lehman on the resort’s Golf course, which took place last year.
“The Patriot Course looks and feels like a new golf course,” said Leo Simonetta, director of golf at The Wigwam Golf Club. “The new white-sand bunkers set against the emerald green and striped fairways look amazing. In addition, the new irrigation system will allow our agronomy team to offer consistent and pristine playing conditions on The Patriot Course.”
