Owners report positive feedback to renovations at Golf Club of Texas
The owners of the Golf Club of Texas near San Antonio, US have reported positive feedback from the club’s membership following recent renovation work.
The course’s original designer, Roy Bechtol, has led the recent work, and a ‘soft opening’ took place on 28 August.
“Virtually every golfer who’s played the course has told us how much they enjoyed their round and that they were going to come back and bring their golf partners and friends the next time,” said Ruffin Moore, the director of club operations for the Outlaw Golf Group, owners and operators of the Golf Club of Texas. “We are excited to hear that because we know the course will get even better in the months to come as it matures and the greens get faster.”
The project has drawn attention due to its use of Zoysia grasses, with the course’s 18 holes now featuring different strains of the versatile, drought-resistant turf.
The course’s putting surfaces, bunkering and tees have been reworked, while additional bunkers have also added to selected fairways.
Enhancements have also been made to the course’s irrigation and the club’s practice facilities, and the back and front nine have been reversed in an attempt to create a more dynamic finish.
“The changes we have made only enhance what was there in the past and address maintenance and conditioning issues that affected the course in the past few years,” said Bechtol. “I love the way the course plays and the feeling that you are constantly surrounded by golf and nature. I couldn’t be happier about the way the renovation has come out.”
A grand reopening of the course is scheduled to take place in mid-October.
