Old Memorial course reopens following renovation project led by Steve Smyers
The course at Old Memorial Golf Club in Tampa, Florida, has reopened following a renovation project led by architect Steve Smyers.
Work included the regrassing of the 18-hole course with a selection of modern hybrid bermudagrasses.
The course’s bunkers have been reworked to help improve their strategic value and provide a better transition from the manicured areas to the natural surrounding areas.
The lines of the bunkers have been reshaped, in order for the “player’s eye to settle better on the target” according to Smyers.
Smyers also worked alongside design partner Patrick Andrews to recontour the course’s greens, and has modified all green surrounds to add more swales and rolls with the aim of bringing chipping back into the game.
Work was also carried out to help improve the club’s extensive practice facilities.
