Ogilvy, Clayton, Cocking & Mead appointed as Portsea GC consultants
Portsea Golf Club has appointed Ogilvy, Clayton, Cocking & Mead golf course architects as professional consultants to help enhance the quality of its golf course.
The firm’s Mike Cocking, Mike Clayton and Ashley Mead previously worked at the course – which is located near the entrance to Port Phillip Bay in Victoria, Australia – back in the 1990s and early 2000s.
During this time the architects helped enhance the course’s reputation significantly. Since then however, a few holes have been changed to help the routing following the introduction of a new clubhouse.
“We’re hoping to be able to recapture the original feel of the holes which were changed and at the same time there are some opportunities to still improve upon some other parts of the golf course,” Cocking told GCA. “It’s a wonderful course, built over big scale sand dunes at the tip of the Mornington Peninsula and without question it belongs in the top 25 courses in the country.”
Cocking added: “The course has immense potential, and we look forward to working closely with the club over the coming years to further enhance its quality.”
