Nicklaus, Trevino, Palmer and Player to co-design new course at The Greenbrier

Reports indicate that a new golf course is to be built at The Greenbrier resort and that owner Jim Justice has brought in four of the biggest names in golf to collaborate on the project.

Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus, Lee Trevino and Gary Player have all been brought in by Justice according to an article from the WV Gazette.

“It’s something that has never happened before, it will probably never happen again,” Justice told the WV Gazette. “Arnold Palmer is 86 years old. The odds of this ever happening again aren’t great. And so now, we have history happening right in front of us, right here in West Virginia.”

The new course will be built on land overlooking the historic Oakhurst Links, which was built in 1884. Justice purchased that course in 2012, and it now forms part of The Greenbrier’s golfing package.

Reports also suggest that Justice plans to name the course IV Greats of the Game.

Speaking to PGA.com, Lee Trevino said: “No one has ever landed these players to co-design a golf course. It’s going to be really something special. Jim Justice wants to leave a legacy for Arnold, Jack, Gary and me, so it will be there forever and ever. I’m indebted to him for that.”

Work is set to get underway before the end of July 2015 at the resort near White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia. It is hoped that the course will open for play in Autumn 2016.
