New short game area introduced at Sandy Lodge Golf Club
A new short game area has been created at Sandy Lodge Golf Club in the London suburb of Northwood, UK.
The project, which has seen the development of a 600 square metre green on a site adjacent to the club’s existing putting green, has been overseen by Greg Evans of Greg Evans Golf Course Solutions.
The short game area features a links-style revetted bunker, as well as a sleeper-style bunker that resembles the hazard on the second hole of the full course at Sandy Lodge.
The design was drawn up by Ricky Willison and Weller Designs, and construction commenced in June 2017. Sports turf contractors Profusion Environmental was appointed to deliver the grass for the new area, and oversaw the major construction, irrigation and drainage aspects of the chipping green project.
The club’s head greenkeeper Richard Elderfield and his son Michael oversaw the green’s growth and made sure that the appropriate level of turf quality was reached.
Evans will continue working with the Sandy Lodge team moving forward to help enhance other facilities at the club.
