New lake added to Sultan course at PGA National Turkey
PGA National Turkey Antalya Golf Club has redesigned a hole on its Sultan course by introducing an 80-metre-long lake.
The lake replaces a large bunker on the left of the fairway on the par-four fifth hole on the course, which was originally designed by David Jones. The work was overseen by the club’s general manager Ahmed Cagil.
PGA National Turkey’s director of golf Michael Jones said: “There were two main reasons for redesigning the hole and giving it a new look and strategy. Over the years, the fairway bunker on the left has become too difficult to play from for many people, so replacing it with the lake will not only improve the playability of the hole, but also speed up the pace of play.
“We’re very excited at the changes we’ve made and are sure that they will only add to the experience of playing Turkey’s number one course.”
The club, the first in Turkey with 36 holes and host of the Turkish Airlines World Golf Final in 2012, was renamed from Antalya Golf Club to PGA National Turkey in 2017.
