Mont Belvieu appoints Fry/Straka for Eagle Pointe masterplan

The city of Mont Belvieu, Texas, has appointed Fry/Straka to design a comprehensive masterplan for its Eagle Pointe Golf Course.

The architects expect to update greens with new turfgrass, significantly improve bunkers, address surface and subsurface drainage and thin trees to help improve light and air movement and highlight specimen trees.

“We are honoured to have been selected by the city of Mont Belvieu, Texas, to design the masterplan for their Eagle Pointe golf course,” said Dana Fry. “The city has state-of-the-art amenities for its citizens and the surrounding communities, and the golf course should be no exception. We look forward to making Eagle Pointe the place to play in the Greater Houston area.”

The 18-hole par-71 course was designed by Rick Forester and opened in 1999. It features tree-lined holes with significant elevation change and rolling terrain, a series of lakes and a gully cutting through the property, with the Old River on the boundary of several holes.

Fry/Straka engaged the golf community in the masterplan process, deploying a golf course survey and GPS data loggers.

“The city is very excited about working with Fry and Straka to develop a masterplan for the Eagle Pointe golf course,” said Nick Dixon, mayor of Mont Belvieu. “This is going to be a great step; bringing new life, fun, and playability to the course while making it more efficient and cost effective.”

The masterplan is expected to be complete in August 2019.
