Jonathan Davison progresses with bunker work at Albatross Golf Resort

Golf course architect Jonathan Davison of Create Golf is progressing with a bunker renovation at Albatross Golf Resort near Prague, Czech Republic.

After numerous heavy rain events in 2020, the club hired the Slovakia-based architect to renovate the bunkers. Davison proposed removing some bunkers to increase playing options by providing more width. The remaining bunkers are being reworked to improve visibility, interest and character.

“Work has really progressed well during extremely difficult times, but I think golfers will see a big difference both visually and strategically when it is complete,” said Davison.

Czech firm HB Golf began construction work in autumn 2020 and, despite bad weather in the winter, the project is on track to be completed for the 2021 season.

The project also includes the installation of new BunkerMat liners supplied by WhiteMoss Eco, and new sand with the aim of enhancing playability and improving bunker drainage during heavy rain events.

This project is the latest stage of a long-term development plan at Albatross Golf Resort. Owner Jiri Šimáně has already invested in a new water storage reservoir, an upgrade of the irrigation system, a redesign of the sixteenth green, and a new short game facility.

The resort is part of the European Tour Destination network and will host the D&D Real Czech Masters on the European Tour in August 2021.
