John Fought completes renovation work at Alpine CC

Golf course architect John Fought has completed a renovation of the golf course and practice facilities at Alpine Country Club in Highland, Utah.

Duininck Golf oversaw construction on the project, which began in July 2018 and has seen the renovation of bunkers, plus new cart paths and work on the practice range and putting green.

“The bunker renovation has really improved the look and design of Alpine,” said Jake Ebner, golf course superintendent at Alpine Country Club. “Having the Better Billy Bunker liners will give our members more consistent bunkers and greatly extend the life of the white sand. We have very rocky soils at Alpine and have dealt with a lot of rock and soil contamination in the past. The new liners will also double the life expectancy of the bunkers.”

Some of the bunkers have been repositioned. “New locations for the bunkers provide a new and more modern playing strategy,” said Fought.

Trees in problem areas have also been eliminated and new tee boxes have been added on the fifth, seventh, ninth, twelfth and fourteenth holes.

Alpine’s practice range tee area was expanded to accommodate the club’s growing membership and includes a new TurfHound artificial tee surface at the back of the practice tee. The practice putting green has also been expanded and is now over 70 per cent larger.

“These course and practice facility improvements have increased the value of being a member of Alpine,” said Neil Maurer, general manager at Alpine Country Club. “We took a close look at our club strengths and continued to improve upon one of the best-conditioned golf courses and most versatile practice facilities in the state of Utah. These course improvements are especially exciting for our current members and have cemented our position as one of the premier private clubs in the Mountain West.”
