The project at Glenview Park had a significant focus on storm water management

The course at Glenview Park Golf Club has reopened for play following a renovation project led by the Jacobson Golf Course Design firm.

Fairways have been regraded, turf conditions have been improved, and tees and greens have been reseeded and the sand bunkers have also been renovated at the club in Glenview, Illinois.

“The turf grass has grown thick, the renovated bunkers have been raked, and the new fleet of golf carts are charged up and ready to go,” said Ron Cassidy, director of golf at Glenview Park Golf Club. “From continuous cart paths to rolling contours in the fairways, the challenging layout features beautiful views and substantially improved playability. The course is ready for play and we look forward to welcoming Glenview’s golfing community.”

The project had a significant focus on storm water management, and drainage areas have been improved in a bid to help enhance the golfing experience at the club and to protect nearby residential neighbourhoods.

“The storm water management system was intricately woven into the site to fit seamlessly with the surrounding golf course and elicit an immediate sense of environmental sustainability,” said Rick Jacobson, lead architect for the renovation of Glenview Park Golf Club. “A concentrated effort was made to incorporate native grasses in non-play areas of the golf course as a thematic design characteristic to reflect the vernacular prairie landscape of the upper Midwest.”

As well as the changes to the course, updates have been made to the clubhouse, with work carried out on the café, golf shop and washrooms.

“This picturesque parkland golf course is punctuated with golf holes that present golfers with alternative options on howto conquer each hole and results in a fun and rewarding round of golf for golfers of all levels,” added Jacobson. “47 years ago I first stepped foot on the Glenview Park Golf Club as a young man just learning how to play the game of golf. What an honour it has been for me to be a part of the project teamthat preserved and enhanced this historic golf facility.”
