Italy’s Marco Simone Golf and Country Club selected to host 2022 Ryder Cup
The 2022 edition of the Ryder Cup will take place at the Marco Simone Golf and Country Club near Rome, Italy.
The club will be the third venue in continental Europe to host the tournament, following 1997 host Club de Golf Valderrama in Spain and Le Golf National in France, which will host the tournament in 2018.
Italy was selected ahead of Austria, Germany and Spain to host the tournament, with the decision being made by a Bid Evaluation Committee comprised of representatives from the European Tour and the Ryder Cup.
Marco Simone Golf and Country Club is home to an 18-hole Championship course and the nine-hole Resort course.
The Championship course was designed by Jim Fazio, but will be ‘completely reconstructed’ ahead of the tournament according to an official release from the Ryder Cup. No architect has yet been confirmed for this work, but it is widely expected that European Golf Design, the firm half owned by the European Tour, will get the nod. EGD managing director Jeremy Slessor confirmed to GCA that the firm had been advising the Italian bid for the last year, but refused to speculate on the renovation contract.

With Paris in 2018 and now Rome in 2022 being the respective host cities for Europe’s next two stagings of biennial contest against the United States, the magical appeal of the Ryder Cup is set to continue.”
