Huxham Golf Designs creates new 18-hole golf course in South Korea
A new 18-hole golf course has opened for play in South Korea.
The course has been designed by Huxham Golf Designs, a company led by Montreal-based golf course architects and brothers Warren and Darrell Huxham.
The Diamond Country Club course is located near the city of Busan in the southeast of the country.
“It was without a doubt the most challenging site that we have worked on,” Warren Huxham told GCA. “The course was built up in the mountains on very steep terrain. There was a 240m elevation change from one end of the property to the other. The entire project was massive in scope and very interesting to be involved with.”
The project’s construction team moved approximately 2.5 million m3 of material, of which about 1.25 million m3 was blasted. This was something Huxham compares to the construction of a freeway and says was only feasible for a project in a place such as South Korea.
“The biggest challenge was in making the holes playable and fun,” he added. “Our client recently informed us that the course, with its incredible views and fun design, has become one of the most popular in the country.”
