Harradine Golf designs new course for major development project in Pakistan
Harradine Golf has designed a new 18-hole golf course as part of the Capital Smart City Islamabad development project in Pakistan, with construction work expected to begin in January 2019.
Capital Smart City Islamabad is an initiative of Future Developments Holdings, a developer of new state-of-the-art smart cities operating in Pakistan. The new project is to be located on the M2 Lahore-Islamabad motorway near New Islamabad International Airport, on the eastern route of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor.
The course will be the centrepiece of a brand-new city that will be marketed to Pakistani expatriates currently living in the USA and the UK. The work also includes the location of the clubhouse and zoning of the real estate and internal roads.
According to Harradine Golf, small valleys and rugged terrain provide a design challenge – the site has up to 30 metres of elevation change.
Speaking about the project on a recent visit, Peter Harradine said: “Absolutely fantastic, it's unique! I've never worked on a site like this and I am very, very happy to be here.”
Harradine said this is one of the most beautiful and challenging sites his team has ever worked on. He added that the zoning of the clubhouse, real estate and other amenities and facilities will have to contend with the extreme variations in the topography as well as the demand for as much real estate as possible.
Another challenge Harradine expects during construction is the lengthy monsoon period, which is followed by dry weather. He said an immense amount of water storage will be needed to irrigate the site during the dry season.
Harradine will also design a driving range, putting green and golf academy area.
Construction of the course is expected to be complete by the end of 2019.
