Greg Norman’s firm completes bunker work at Wente Vineyards

Greg Norman Golf Course Design has completed new bunkering – the first of three phases of a renovation project – at The Course at Wente Vineyards in Livermore, California.

Jason McCoy and Rogelio Abarca are leading the project, which comes 26 years after Greg Norman and his design team laid out the course at the estate of Wente Vineyards, America’s longest continuously operated family-owned winery.

“The primary goals of the bunker renovation were to improve playability, aesthetics, functionality and the maintenance of the golf course,” said general manager Cody Price. “Each bunker throughout the course has been renovated with the guidance of Greg Norman Golf Course Design to maintain the integrity of the original design.”

Diamond Golf International handled construction work, with Robert Pedigo reshaping the bunkers prior to the installation of liner from ZLine Bunker Systems. New white sand has also been added.

Delta Bluegrass provided and laid new sod around bunkers and construction areas. The primary turf used was perennial ryegrass, with several bunkers framed with tall fescue to offer a visual contrast.

The second phase of renovation is now in planning and will focus on tees, trees and drainage.
