Greg Letsche renovates course at The Plantation at Ponte Vedra
Architect Greg Letsche has is in the middle of an extensive renovation of the golf course at The Plantation at Ponte Vedra on Florida’s east coast.
Multi-million dollar plans to revitalise course were announced last year, with ground being broken at the Arnold Palmer and Ed Seay design in September 2015.
“The objective of the revitalisation project is to provide the membership of The Plantation with an ecological and sustainable golf course that preserves and enhances the basic course character and maintains the reputation of the golf course,” said Letsche. “The overall design revolves around a less is more approach to hazard placement, creating shot values in terms of risk/reward, and offering imagination in club selection throughout the course, especially in the surrounds of the green complexes.”
The project is focusing on improving the course’s drainage, irrigation and bunkering.
Celebration bermudagrass has also been introduced to the tees, fairways and roughs, while selected tees greens and bunkers are being repositioned to improve playability for The Plantation’s members.
Letsche added: “As designer, I believe that in creating a truly unforgettable round of golf the course should be challenging while allowing players to be rewarded for good shots while not being overly punitive for hitting bad ones.”
The course is set to reopen in autumn 2016.
