Golden Horseshoe Gold Course to reopen this July following renovations
The Golden Horseshoe Gold Course at Colonial Williamsburg in Virginia, US, will reopen this July following a renovation project.
The course was designed by Robert Trent Jones Senior, and the recent work has been led by a team from the original architect’s son’s firm – Rees Jones, Inc. Golf Course Design.
Rees Jones is familiar with the club, having designed the Green Course at Golden Horseshoe. Colonial Williamsburg is also home to the nine-hole Spotswood short course.
The recent project has seen Northbridge bermudagrass introduced to the course’s fairways and roughs.
007 bentgrass has been implemented on the greens. Furthermore, the green complexes on holes two, six, twelve and eighteen have been reconstructed, with all other greens resurfaced.
Bunkers have been rebuilt using the Better Billy Bunker construction method.
A new short game practice area has also been created, and the existing practice putting green has been expanded.
The course is scheduled to reopen 1 July.
