Gary Player’s firm unveils latest design at the DLF Golf and Country Club

Gary Player has unveiled his design firm’s latest course at the DLF Golf and Country Club in Gurgaon, India.

The course is set to open to the public in the next few weeks, with a group of invited guests having played the course on 27-28 March.

According to Gary Player Design, the course features ‘dramatic land forms, rock quarries, a large lake and extensive landscaping’.

Geo-textile bunkers have been used on the course to help reduce maintenance costs, and thousands of indigenous trees have been planted to reduce the course’s carbon footprint. Irrigation is provided from a lake fed with recycled and treated water.

“This course is designed to not only create a fun and enjoyable golf outing for the members of DLF Golf and Country Club, but also to host championship events,” said Jeff Lawrence, senior designer at Gary Player Design. “One of our top priorities was to make sure all skill levels can have a pleasant and entertaining experience.”

Player’s firm is currently involved in more than 20 projects in Asia, and has previously said that India presents one of the most ‘important opportunities’ when it comes to developing the game around the world.

“I have enjoyed my ‘second’ career creating courses in new and interesting lands, and India really stands out as a fascinating place to visit,” said Player. “I am very proud of this course, which will truly stand beside any in the world.”
