Gary Player Design hired to create new course in Vietnam

Gary Player Design has been hired to create a new golf course in Vietnam.

The new course will be one of three 18 holers to be created as part of the Cau Duong development.

Player’s firm’s design will be built close to the Red River, and will complement the other courses at the development, which are being designed by Nick Faldo’s firm and IMG Design.

“We are just starting the design process, but I envision a links-style course that exceeds 7,500 yards and uses the river as a key feature,” said Steven McFarlane, a senior designer at Gary Player Design. “We also look forward to an environmentally friendly approach, taking advantage of natural vegetation and other existing opportunities on site.”

The Cau Duong development is being lead by Vingroup, and is one of a number of projects supporting the development of golf in the country.

“It is always exciting to design a course in a new and unique setting,” said Scott Ferrell, president of Gary Player Design. “We take Gary Player’s lead in our motivation to help make golf a global game. Through designing courses in parts of the world like Vietnam, we will build on Asia’s success thus far.”
