Full Stoatin Brae course to open at Gull Lake View
The full 18 holes at the new Stoatin Brae golf course at Gull Lake View Golf Club & Resort are set to open on 15 May.
Twelve holes opened last September at the resort in southwest Michigan, with a team from Renaissance Golf Design working to complete the full 18 holes layout ahead of opening this spring.
The new course has been built on a former apple orchard, and is the sixth course to open at Gull Lake View. Other layouts at the resort include the Charles Scott-designed Stonehenge South course and the William Mitchell-designed Bedford Valley course.
From an architectural perspective, the course has been created with input from a number of Renaissance Golf Design architects – namely Eric Iverson, Brian Schneider, Don Placek and Brian Slawnik. Slawnik commented: “Working together on a project is nothing new for the four of us. We’ve been doing it for a long time.”
“I believe we’ve built something very different for three market, and different than anything we’ve done before,” said Iverson. “We were entrusted with a very good piece of land and really tried to leave it alone as much as possible. Putting a golf course on that site will draw golfers to a really cool part of southwest Michigan.”
