Famous Nine to open at Cornwall’s Gwel an Mor resort
A new nine-hole golf course is to open for play this week at the Gwel an Mor resort in Cornwall, UK.
The course has been designed by David Cooper, the PGA professional at Remedy Oak Golf Club in Dorset.
The new course features all weather greens and tees, supplied by UK-based European Golf.
A number of the holes are inspired by iconic holes on other courses. These include homages to St Andrews, August, Royal Troon, Sawgrass and Carnoustie.
The course has been designed with the aim of attracting both experienced golfers and newcomers to the game.
The Gwel an Mor resort sits on Cornwall’s northern coastline, just south of the town of Portreath. The sea can be viewed throughout the Famous Nine.
More than 250,000 tons of earth was imported to create the course’s levels and undulations, while 20,000 tons were dug out from the site to complete the course’s water features.
The Famous Nine is to open on 27 September 2017.
