Enhancements to be made to Portishead nine-hole course
A series of enhancements to a nine-hole course in Portishead, UK, have been approved by the local council.
The Portishead course was originally designed by Harry Vardon but was abandoned shortly after the Second World War. It is now owned by Portishead Golf For All, who in 2013 negotiated a 25-year lease with the site’s owners North Somerset Council.
SAS Golf Design has been brought in to draw up a series of improvements to the course, and the council has now given the go-ahead for a series of alterations to be made. The firm’s Adrian Stiff and Ben Stephens will be leading the work.
Contouring will take place on the fairways, and due to the steep slopes of the course, this will involve bringing around 16,000 cubic metres of clay, sand and gravel to the site
Seven new greens will also be introduced, as well as new tee areas and a new practice area.
Construction is set to get underway shortly, with a view to the improved course be available to play in 2016.
