El Zagal Public Golf Course reopens following project led by Gill Design
The El Zagal Public Golf Course in Fargo, North Dakota, has reopened following a closure of almost two years due to extensive levee reconstruction and redesign work.
Built in 1940 and operated by the Fargo Park District, the nine-hole par-three course lies close to the Red River, and was previously regularly affected by floodwaters.
The levee reconstruction work was led by Minneapolis-based Barr Engineering, and meant that the golf course had to be reduced in size from 25 acres to 22 acres. This meant that a reworking of the course layout was necessary.
Gill Design oversaw the transformation and made subtle alterations to the course to fit the new space. The firm worked with Duininck Golf to carry out a series of renovations to the course, with a particular focus on the tee boxes, fairways and greens.
As well as the changes to the golf course, a new pro shop and FootGolf facilities have also been introduced at El Zagal.
