Eckenrode completes renovation work on back nine at Barona Creek

Todd Eckenrode of Origins Golf Design has completed renovation work on the back nine at Barona Creek Golf Club in Lakeside, California.

The project began in January and sees Eckenrode returning to the course he helped design at the start of the century. Greens are being rebuilt to their original size and contour, to address shrinkage and the impact of sand build-up over the past 20 years. Greenside bunkers are also being renovated.

“During construction it was discovered that most of the bunkers exhibited a lot of sand build-up on the edges due to 20 plus years of sand splash from bunker shots and the top-dressing program,” said Eckenrode. “The greens renovation was more directed to the age, functionality and maintainability of the greens with minimal work done to change contours or original size.”

Barona Creek Golf Club director of golf Don King said: “We couldn't be happier with the work of Todd Eckenrode and his design team. Since the reopening in June we have received all positive accolades from golfers playing the course.”

Eckenrode said: “We will be starting construction drawings on phase two, the front nine, and we are confident the golfer’s experience will be enhanced even more with the completion.”

Work on the front nine is expected to start in January 2020. Eckenrode is working closely with course superintendent Sandy Clark and assistant Dennis Orsborne on the project, with construction work being handled by Earth Sculptures Inc.
