Desert Highlands set to begin $7 million renovation to golf course
Desert Highlands Golf Club in Scottsdale, Arizona, is set to begin a $7 million renovation project of its golf course, with Nicklaus Design revamping the thirteenth hole.
The golf course, located in the Sonoran Desert of North Scottsdale, was originally designed by Jack Nicklaus’s firm in 1983.
Every bunker on the course is to be renovated, with Capillary Concrete lining and new sand that complements the desert landscape. A new irrigation system will be installed throughout the course.
Construction will begin in April, with Nicklaus Design also making minor renovations to the par-four thirteenth, which has desert landscape splitting the fairway into two landing areas. The changes, overseen by Jon Gardner, are designed to restore the hole to its original risk-reward playing characteristics.
The left fairway will become easier to hit while the carry to the right fairway will be lengthened. The greenside bunker on the left will be made smaller and the front-right portion of the green will become more accessible.
Restoration work will also be done to cart paths.
Nine holes will remain open for members during the project, which is scheduled for completion in summer 2019.
