Weston Golf & Country Club in Toronto, Canada, has appointed Andy Staples as its new consulting golf course architect.
The club’s course was designed in 1920 by Willie Park Jr. Staples – who has worked on Park designs at Olympia Fields (North) in Chicago and Meadowbrook in Michigan and has recently been hired by Canadian club Mount Bruno to create a plan for its Park layout – will reference Park’s original, recently discovered, plans to develop his own master plan that will guide the club’s work on the course over the coming years.
“I’m beyond thrilled to be named the consulting golf course architect at Weston,” said Staples. “It’s an incredible privilege to be able to work with this historic club to bring out the intricacies and nuances of this Willie Park Jr gem. I also look forward to working alongside the membership and staff to come up with a plan that will take this course to the next level in terms of historic relevance, playability and future sustainability.”
Mark Napier, president of Weston, said: “We are excited to welcome Andy to our team and are looking forward to seeing him bring his experience with Willie Park Jr designs to Weston. While utilising his great knowledge of the past, we also are eager to implement his awareness of the future needs for golf courses to build a path to make our course even better.”
