Swan Golf Designs (SGD) has been appointed to audit two UK-based courses, Corhampton, high in Hampshire’s South Downs and Spalding, in the heart of the Lincolnshire fens.
Led by Howard Swan, the Essex-based firm is carrying out summer assessments of each course to determine design, condition and performance before providing recommendations on improving playing strategy at both clubs.
The 120-year-old Corhampton club is keen to keep the challenging reputation of its 6,398-yard, English common-style course, while restoring the landscape and developing practice facilities.
Tulip country’s 105-year-old Spalding Golf Club, in Deeping Fen, is located on silty soil between two major rivers in the bulb-growing region of South Lincolnshire. The club is seeking recommendations from SGD on water management – removing it from playing surfaces and recycling for irrigation, as well as lengthening the course where possible.
