STRI has teamed up with Kanda Golf Marketing Services to provide two educational workshops that will provide practical solutions to golf course maintenance issues and business solutions to help golf clubs grow revenues and reduce costs.
STRI is a leading consultancy for the design, research and management of natural and artificial sports surfaces, and the firm’s Bob Taylor will be presenting the workshops alongside Kanda Golf’s Jerry Kilby.

The workshops will focus on four keys areas. Bob Taylor will cover the golfing environment and how focusing on the environment can help attract and retain members and raise the profile of clubs in the local community. Taylor will also cover the topic of ‘understanding your own environment’ and deliver a session on how to maintain compliance with the latest updates on environmental and ecological legislation, as well as presenting ideas for practical initiatives such as nature conservation and water/waste management projects.
Kilby will deliver a presentation entitled ‘selling the intangible benefits of golf club membership’, which will advise on how to define and sell the‘real’ benefits and attractions of a golf club, such as the prestige, status of the club and the social benefits of becoming a member.
Kilby will also cover one of the most important aspects of customer service: how to handle complaints from members and visitors with a positive outcome for the customer and the club.
The first workshop will take place on 30 September at the Mid-Yorkshire Golf Club, Pontefract, West Yorkshire, UK, and the second on 2 October at the Sonning Golf Club, Reading, Berkshire, UK.
