The Spring 2020 issue of the American Society of Golf Course Architects’ By Design magazine is now available in digital format.
For the cover story, golf writer Joe Passov considers the impact of golf course abandonment on local communities, and the stories of a number of golf courses that have been, or are being, brought back from the brink.
The issue also sees ASGCA members reflecting on the influence of groundbreaking golf course designer Pete Dye, who passed away in January 2020. Dye was a past president of the ASGCA and had a considerable impact on many of the designers who worked for him, such as Bobby Weed, Tim Liddy and Bill Coore.
Elsewhere, there’s ASGCA perspective on the USGA and R&A’s Distance Insights conclusions, an interview with Richard Mandell about the concept course routing he is showcasing on social media, and a quick Q&A with A. John Harvey, a former associate of Robert Trent Jones and Roger Rulewich.
By Design is free of charge – visit the By Design page of the ASGCA website to subscribe and to review the back catalogue of digital editions.
