American architect John Sanford is collaboration with Nicklaus Design on the new Palm Hills course in Egypt. Located just outside Cairo, Palm Hills is one of seven Egyptian project the architect is currently working on. It is Nicklaus’s first work in Egypt.
Palm Hills is currently under construction and scheduled for a summer 2010 opening. “Collaborating with Nicklaus Design has been a great opportunity and experience for us,” said Sanford. “They have provided us with access to their vast resources and insight into their unique design details, as well as bringing the Nicklaus brand name to this growing golf destination.” Thirteen of the 27 holes overlook the Great Pyramids of Giza.
The course, which rests on 100 per cent limestone, required heavy earth moving in. The site offers 150 feet of vertical relief, resulting in several holes that play uphill downhill. The course design also includes six man-made lakes and a series of creeks that create strategic shot opportunities on a number of holes.
The development will include complete spa facilities and a luxurious five star hotel managed by Ritz-Carlton.
