Royal St David’s Golf Club in Harlech, Wales, has updated its irrigation following a comprehensive project by Toro, Reesink Hydroscapes and Green Irrigation.
The club, recognising the need to modernise its irrigation infrastructure, opted for Toro’s Lynx Central Control System, Infinity Series sprinklers and Turf Guard wireless soil sensors.
“Lynx LSM gave us the opportunity to provide the club with +/- 1 second run time technology,” said Simon Squires, senior sales manager of golf irrigation at Toro. “Precise and efficient application was exactly what the design brief demanded to provide the key deliverable in preventing overwatering.”
The Lynx Central Control System offers real-time monitoring and control, allowing the club to adjust irrigation schedules based on weather conditions and soil moisture levels. The precise control provided by the system allows the club to adapt irrigation practices to changing weather conditions, ensuring that water is used only when necessary.
The Infinity Series sprinklers deliver precise water management, helping the club to optimise moisture levels across the course while reducing water waste. Meanwhile, Toro’s Turf Guard soil sensors provide data on underground moisture, temperature and salinity, enabling the club to make informed decisions on turf maintenance.
Reesink Hydroscapes helped Royal St David’s to transition to the new system and worked with Green Irrigation to provide guidance to the club to ensure that its needs were met.
A key focus for the team has been designing a system that enhances the club’s long-term sustainability. The introduction of Toro’s water-efficient technology helps reduce overall water usage, and by using advanced sprinkler technology and real-time data monitoring, the new system minimises water waste while maintaining high-quality playing conditions.
“This successful project serves as a model for other golf clubs looking to enhance irrigation efficiency while maintaining superior course quality,” said Squires. “Through strategic partnerships and the use of modern technology, Royal St David’s demonstrates how innovation and sustainability can go hand in hand in the world of golf course management.”
