Idaho's Sun Valley resort has closed the opening hole on its Trail Creek course for a substantial remodel.
Trail Creek was originally designed by the Robert Trent Jones II firm in 1980. The 530 yard par five first hole is to get a redesigned green, plus a widened and recontoured fairway landing area. A fairway bunker and the green, which is protected by a pond, will both be made smaller.
The resort has implemented a contingency hole to keep eighteen holes in play for visitors during the remodelling project. The new-look hole is expected to open next July.
“The hole will be made more player friendly, with improved playability and conditions, and without taking a hole away from golfers, thanks to our extra hole,” said Rick Hickman, the resort's director of golf.
