A renovation of the practice facility and short game area at Windy Harbor Golf Club – which forms part of Naval Station Mayport near Jacksonville, Florida – will be led by Arnold Palmer Design Company.

Plans include the creation of a new chipping green measuring between 4,000 and 5,000 square metres and featuring a practice bunker. An expanded putting green will also be created.

The firm will offer its services free of charge to help Operation Support Military Golf (OSMG), a non-profit organisation that aims to support US military personnel by improving golf courses and associated facilities at bases across the world.

“Arnold Palmer Design Company’s assistance is invaluable and will enable service members and their families – past, present and future – to benefit from bolstered morale, wellness and recreation afforded by the Mayport facility,” says Jennifer Poth, founder of OSMG. “There are 145 golf courses at bases worldwide – 111 in the US – and many are falling into disrepair due to zero dollars being appropriated for their upkeep.”

Arnold Palmer Design Company is the latest in a line of golfing organisations to provide assistance to OSMG, joining the likes of Golf Course Superintendents Association of America, American Society of Golf Course Architects, Golf Course Builders Association of America, Sanford Golf Design and MacCurrach Golf Construction in supporting the non-profit organisation.
