The new Donnafugata Golf Resort and Spa in Sicily is now fully open. The resort has two golf courses, designed by Italian architect Franco Piras and Gary Player’s firm.
Donnafugata, which has been developed by Spanish firm Sotogrande, part of the NH Hoteles group, the third largest hotel business group in Europe, is located near the Sicilian city of Ragusa. The North course, designed by the Player firm, incorporates a typical Mediterranean landscape of olive and carob trees, and is located next to a Greek necropolis dating from the sixth century BC. Piras’s South course, which has a links theme, follows two valleys. Construction was handled by Italian contractor Greenmakers.
The resort’s hotel has 202 guest rooms, including ten suites, as well as three restaurants, a spa and a convention centre.
