A new 18-hole course designed by Gordon Lewis has opened for public play at Calusa Country Club, a Lennar Homes development in the expansive Lakewood Ranch community near Sarasota, Florida.
The new layout becomes the tenth course to open at Lakewood Ranch, which comprises 36 villages over 33,000 acres.
The Calusa Country Club course features rolling contour, white sand bunkers and has water in play on all 18 holes. The course has been grassed with TifEagle on greens and Bimini bermuda on fairways.
Six sets of tees allow the par-72 course to be played from a total distance of 3,798 to 7,404 yards.
The club also has an aqua range and short-game practice area, and plans to add a putting course and 12-hole course, which will also be designed by Lewis.
"We are beyond thrilled to announce the opening of Calusa Country Club, a stunning Gordy Lewis design,” said Dylan Wright, director of Calusa Country Club. “With his visionary touch, we’re bringing a one-of-a-kind golfing experience to life and we can't wait to welcome guests.”
