Vladimir Resin, Moscow’s acting mayor, has cancelled a decree supporting the building of golf courses.
The decree was initially promulgated by previous mayor Yury Luzhkov, and aimed to promote the development of courses through the period 2007-2012.
Under the decree, the Moscow city government committed itself to identifying sites for golf facilities, and inviting investors to back their construction.
This bore fruit in the shape of a nine hole public course in the district of Kurkino, which opened recently. Resin plans to introduce new programme for regulating golf development up to 2025 in the city. It is unclear how any policy change will effect the climate for private golf developers in the Moscow area.
