Erik Larsen, senior golf architect from Arnold Palmer Design Company, has been elected as president of the American Society of Golf Course Architects, taking on the role from Doug Carrick of Carrick Design.
Speaking at the organisation’s 64th annual meeting in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, Larsen explained that he planned to publicise the unique values of golf as a game of integrity, competitiveness and fellowship played on dynamic, beautiful grounds. He also highlighted the role of golf courses beyond the sport; serving as green space, wildlife and flora habitat and other activities that benefit the community such as trails for jogging, cross country skiing or as concert space.
Since joining Arnold Palmer Design Company in 1983, Larsen has been responsible for more than 100 courses, including new layouts Deacon’s Ridge in Minnesota and Running T Ranch in Oregon. Larsen is also a member of the American Society of Landscape Architects and Urban Land Institute.
