Jerry Pate Design has been hired to lead a new project at The Colony Golf and Country Club in Bonita Springs, Florida.
The work will include the reconstruction of greens and greenside bunkers across the 18-hole, which was originally designed by Pate in 2000.
“We are coring the greens and rebuilding the USGA profile which had become compromised over the years for all the typical reasons,” Pate told GCA. “We are adjusting contours slightly for playability – generally softening fall-offs on the edges and transition slopes to make the green complexes a bit more receptive.”
Pate added that this work was the first step in a master plan to transition the entire golf course to Platinum Paspalum turfgrass.
The course will be closed for the summer months as the work is carried out, with a scheduled reopening for 1 November.
